INSTRUMENTATION

Constitution Bridge, San Juan - Puerto Rico
Bridge over Río Grande de Arecibo , Arecibo - Puerto Rico

Our services for field instrumentation include the installing and monitoring devices, which obtain data for the analysis of long term behavior of soil movement, ground water table, soil-structure interaction and structure deformations.
In the case of soil movement, ground water table and soil-structure interaction, GEOCONSULT can design of the instrumentation system, install and monitor, process data and provide a final analysis of the results. For structures, we can install and monitor instrumentation and submit data to the client for further processing and analysis.
Our experience in instrumentation services includes the installation of piezometers, inclinometers, strain gages, rebar strainmeters, earth pressure cells, extensometers, tiltmeters, temperature and humidity probes and accelerometers. We have designed data collection systems for automatic reading and storage.

RECENT PROJECTS

Puerto Rico Supplies
Bayamón - Puerto Rico

Installation, reading, and interpretation of settlement plate surveying, vibrating wire piezometer readings, and soil extensometer data was undertaken in order to determine end of primary consolidation caused by a surcharge placed to precompress the future site of the Puerto Rico Supplies distribution center

Bridge over Río Grande de Arecibo,
Arecibo - Puerto Rico.

Review proposed instrumentation from structural designer, preparation of detailed drawings and installation of a monitoring system for a 165 meters long bridge supported on drilled shafts. The instrumentation included "sister bars" on piles, bridge slabs and beams; strain gages on composite columns, earth pressure cells behind abutment walls, extensometers in approach slab, tiltmeters, humidity probes and accelerometers. The project is currently under construction.

Rio Blanco Offstream Dam
Rio Blanco, Puerto Rico

Installation and monitoring of vibrating wire piezometers to monitor excess pore water pressures generated by loading caused by fill placement. Foundation strength is limited. GeoConsult developed a plan in which pore pressure thresholds were established that will trigger the implementation of a staged construction approach.

Constitution Bridge Steel Pipe Piles,
San Juan - Puerto Rico. 2000

Straingages installation and monitoring on a 48 inches steel pipe. The geotechnical investigation and foundation design were performed by Geoconsult.
Analysis of long term behavior was accomplished by means of in-situ deformation evaluation.

Drainage Analysis for a 10 km section of PR-52, from Caguas to Guavate - Puerto Rico.
Installation and monitoring of 240 piezometers to evaluate ground water regimen and prepared drainage improvement recommendations. The pavement is permanently affected by high piezometric pressures, which dramatically raise maintenance cost.
